For years, the Mexican-Unites States border has been “under attack” by illegal Mexican aliens that are getting through into America. Although it has always been a moral and legal issue, more recently, the battle has turned economic and patriotic.
Many Americans are angry with the high number of illegals due to decreasing job opportunities. As more and more non-citizens take American jobs, less and less American citizens can obtain said jobs. It has gone to the point that the Californian infrastructure is now dependent on illegal workers due to their sheer number. However, that is old news.
According to the article at http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/08/08/pot.eradication/index.html, the illegal aliens have turned a solely economic consequence and fused it with a patriotic one. By planting marijuana plants in national forests, illegal immigrants are turning national landmarks into habitat for legal flora. Ironically, it is the strong border control that is to blame. The article notes that “for years, Mexican drug cartels have used the remote forest to conduct and conceal their business. But the pot production has intensified because it has become harder and harder to smuggle marijuana across the U.S.-Mexico border.”
The lives of sheriffs and possibly even adventurous tourists are at risk: “authorities have arrested 38 people and have seized 29 automatic weapons, high-powered rifles and other guns.” Illegal immigrants planting illegal plants in illegal areas—it is a trifecta of injustice that is corrupting the south-western states.
