Ever since the high gas prices hit America, every citizen has suffered. In fact, many businesses have done so as well. Because of how car savvy America’s infrastructure is, all the driving to and fro, be it to and from work, school, or simply groceries and other necessities, the US dependency of OPEC’s oil has become overwhelmingly obvious. Each household is spending less and saving to simply continue their daily, driving-filled lives.
Major companies have been hit by the high prices, including Starbucks, which has lowered its prices in the afternoons so long as a receipt from a previous purchase is presented. Moreover, American culture has been led down the path to saving every penny when it comes to gas. Recently, Americans have suffered, but now America and its future are suffering.
In the article presented by http://www.theindychannel.com/news/17091971/detail.html, US schools are now facing economic issues due to high gas prices. With “rising diesel fuel prices, up from $1.58 a gallon in May of 2005 to right around $4 a gallon now,” students in sports and other extracurricular activities must pay an extra fine of nearly thirty dollars. Why? For the buses. Although the schools are using fewer buses, this strategy is showing to be not enough for relieving the schools’ budgets.
Many families may not be willing to pay these dues, regardless of ability, simply because of principle—the government, they may feel, has made wrong decisions and now the families of America must literally pay the price, which may not be right.
