Globally Warming has been affecting numerous countries in numerous ways. Although most of the situations have been shifting weather around, some areas have been hit with tsunamis and such that crumble the countries’ economies. The United States may be next.
The US already has economical issues due to rising petroleum prices, war, inflation, and a tumbling real estate market. However, with global warming stepping in, Americans may soon face a crumbled economy altogether. In the article at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7547921.stm, there have been more and more hurricanes affecting the Atlantic. This situation is threatening America’s eastern and gulf coasts, where much of its economy is standing—New York and Miami as tourist spots as well as big business areas, Texas with the same plus its oil, and everywhere in between.
According to the article, “the governor of Texas declared 17 counties disaster areas, while a state of emergency was declared in Louisiana.” The threat that the Atlantic hurricanes possess is a large one that cannot be stopped through preemptive means. The statistics show that from the beginning of last year until this November—the official hurricane season—“between 14 and 18 named storms could be produced, with seven to 10 becoming hurricanes and three to six of them being classified as ‘major’ hurricanes.” The numbers show that this could only be the beginning for Texas and much of the eastern coast.
Although Florida is famously used to such conditions, the threat of natural disasters affecting the economy has become a more serious issue since New Orleans’ disaster. America has enough on its mind.
